Ok, guess what I found?! Well, I suppose it will make more sense if I tell the whole story...
Once Upon a Time….
there was a young girl (that would be me.), who was sitting in her chamber (that would be my bedroom.) working on her edjumacation (that would be my school work- yuck.) She was practicing her... umm... penmanship (that would be writing an American Lit. paper on the Jazz Age.)
The fair young maiden (that would be me - again..) was blissfully writing her paper (HA! yea right! more like tortuously!! who is writing this story anyway??!!) and looking in old ancient books (a new awesome laptop is close enough, right??) for the information.
All of the sudden.. dun dun dun...
(there is intense music playing in the background...
ok, not really..
use your imagination. haha)
Anyway - dun dun dun... the young girl (again, that would be ME!!) clicked on a link (oops, I mean she saw an enticing paragraph in one of the ancient books she was reading) that said:
The Internet Guide to Jazz Age Slang.
Me (that would be the fair maiden/young girl. Give me a break! I am bored, ok? haha just kidding!!!!!!) Anyway, Me thinks, "Well now.. that might be interesting.." (ok, actually, I didn't say that.. just pretend I did though, ok? It make the story more interesting - trust me. haha) So, she (me) clicked on it...
Lets just say, it (that would be the website- just in case you were CORNfused.) was pretty cool/funny/Awesome!
Here is my favorite part of the website:
-ski, -avous: these are two suffixes (derived from Russian and French, respectively) used in flapper parlance to “dress up” normal words. The suffix could be added to any word. There was only one hard and fast rule: if you responded to a question containing a suffix, you had to use the same part of speech somehow. Example: “Would you like a drink-avous?” “No thanks, I’m on the wagon-avous.” “The sun-ski is so bright!” “Put on a hat-ski.”
THAT'S COOL!! Plus, it has all these words that the teens used with their meanings.
Yep.
It is sweet.
You should check out the website, (here it is: http://home.earthlink.net/~dlarkins/slang-pg.htm)
& then,
be a trend setter and start saying those crazy words again.
'Cuz that would be cool.
Ok I gotta go.
Later, Peeps!
